He is the main character in the books Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra, which are told almost entirely from his point of view. ![]() ![]() He is familiar with a wide range of English literature from Anglo-Saxon epics to The Hunting of the Snark. Ransom is a philologist at the University of Cambridge, which allows him to pick up the Old Solar language fairly rapidly. In Perelandra, Tinidril sometimes nicknames him " Piebald". Elwin Ransom (born in the 1890s) is a character that appears in every book of the Space Trilogy, including The Dark Tower and Other Stories. ![]()
